Description
- London (SE1) | Hybrid – 3 days on-site | £80,000 – £90,000 DOE + £car allowance + private medical
The opportunity
A prestigious household name UK consumer services business with tens of millions of operational events a year. They invested in and built a central AI function twelve months ago. It's now 15 strong across Data Science, Data Engineering, Product and AI Engineering, and growing!
Squad model: DS, DE, Product and AI Engineering form around a problem and own the product end to end. No throwing models over a wall.
Exciting projects and an innovative culture
What you'll be doing
- Taking AI and ML systems from first idea to production
- Building GenAI applications with LLMs and orchestration frameworks — evaluation, safety and cost designed in from the start
- Writing production-grade Python for cloud-native environments
- Applying CI/CD, containerisation, monitoring and observability as standard
- Watching live models for drift and bias, and acting on what you see
- Turning real business problems into AI solutions, and explaining the results to people who don't write code
What we're looking for
- Python — confident and production-grade. There's a practical exercise in the process.
- ML across the lifecycle — framing, training, deployment, monitoring, retraining. Used by real people, not only explored in a notebook.
- GenAI and LLMs — applications built with LLMs and orchestration frameworks, in production.
- Breadth across both — depth in one, solid current knowledge of the other. Very few people are equally deep in both, and that's expected.
- Azure and Databricks — no certifications needed; they care that you can meet an infrastructure problem and work it out.
- MLOps — CI/CD, containerisation, monitoring, evaluation frameworks.
- Data at scale — large, complex datasets and dependable pipelines for training, fine-tuning and inference.
Got most of this and can speak convincingly to the rest? Please apply. The hiring manager cares more about how you think than whether you match every line.
Package and working pattern
- £80,000 – £90,000 depending on experience
- £5,000 cash car allowance
- Single-cover private medical
- 3 days on-site at Southbank.
The process
- 30 mins, Teams — Head of AI Engineering. A project you took full lifecycle, and the decisions behind it.
- 90 mins, Teams —Half practical Python, half your wider experience.
- In person — culture and commercial fit with the Head of AI Engineering and Director of AI.
New function, so expect ambiguity and pace — this is a team that ships. In return: greenfield problems, short paths to production, and work that visibly changes how thousands of frontline colleagues do their jobs.
