Description

The Head of Consumer Data Products sits in the new Business Integration & Consumer Domains pillar, reporting to its Director. In this role you'll add an explicit interface layer with the business: co-own stakeholder management with Directors/Heads of Data while proactively surfacing cross-functional opportunities. You'll sit between business needs and user stories, design documents, and roadmaps—translating asks into coherent, sequenced work that other domain data squads will build. You'll enforce design-first, BL-first, governed delivery (C4E/DG/DQ gates, data contracts, lineage, context packs, SLAs) and protect critical data models/business layers. You'll simplify: find reusable patterns (e.g. trading dashboards that carry channel views from the start), avoid duplication, and keep products self-serve ready with observable, high-quality assets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Co-own stakeholder management with Directors/HoDs and the Director of Business Integration & Consumer Domains; maintain a clear engagement plan and decision log.
  • Own intake, value cases, and sequencing for consumer data products; map asks into user stories, design docs, and roadmaps that domain squads can execute without rework.
  • Spot cross-functional opportunities early (e.g. build trading dashboards with channel views from the start) to maximise reuse, adoption, and speed to value.
  • Enforce playbooks and guardrails: design-first, BL-first, C4E/DG/DQ gates, data contracts, lineage, glossary/context packs, SLAs, and GTM/adoption plans.
  • Protect critical data models/business layers; set observability, quality, and access expectations before any squad builds; ensure Atlan context is current.
  • Assign work to the right business domain data squads, confirming feasibility, capacity, and readiness; prevent over-commitment through early alignment with Heads of Data.
  • Simplify and retire duplication: prune redundant dashboards/reports, rationalise intake, and keep products self-serve ready with clear producer/consumer maps.
  • Evidence value and adoption: maintain Jira/Productboard hygiene, KPIs, and P&L - backed outcomes for strategic launches; prepare content packs that land trade-offs.
  • Partner with integration/ops on P1 readiness, runbooks, and controls; ensure handovers include monitoring, support models, and access controls.
  • Coach product owners/data PMs (without direct line authority) on playbook compliance, sequencing, and adoption discipline; represent the capability in governance forums.
Who we are

The UK’s fastest broadband network. The nation’s best-loved mobile brand. And, one of the UK's biggest companies too. We put our customers first, making life simpler, smoother, and more joyful. With big ambitions and a brilliant team, we’re building a more connected future for everyone.

Our ways of working

We’re a flexible-first organisation, because we know people do their best work when they have choice and clarity. To support meaningful collaboration, we ask everyone to spend at least eight days each month connecting in person.

That doesn’t just mean time in the office; it could be team meetings, offsites, volunteering days, cross-functional projects, or away days - anywhere meaningful collaboration happens. What matters is making those moments purposeful, so when we come together, it really counts.

Accessible, inclusive and equitable for all

Virgin Media O2 is an equal opportunities employer, and we're working hard to remove bias and barriers for our people and candidates. So, we build equity and inclusion into everything we do, from the policies we craft to the relationships we shape. We support and encourage you to be your authentic self throughout your application journey with us.

The must haves

In order to be considered, you must demonstrate:

  • Proven track record of delivering consumer data products across marketing, digital, retail, and care, with measurable adoption and business value.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into user stories, design documentation, and roadmaps that multiple squads can execute without ambiguity.
  • Hands-on experience with product/data playbooks, including design-first, BL-first, governance (DG/DQ/DP), context packs, data contracts, and GTM/adoption practices.
  • Skill in identifying cross-domain reuse opportunities and simplifying scope to maximize adoption and delivery speed.
  • Fluency in data models, lineage, and observability tools (e.g., BigQuery, Atlan, Tableau), with the ability to define quality and monitoring guardrails upfront.
The other stuff we are looking for

We'd also love you to bring:

  • Strong stakeholder partnership skills, able to co-own relationships with Directors/HoDs and influence squads without direct line authority.
  • Coaching mindset, with the ability to upskill POs, PMs, and analysts on playbook compliance, GTM/adoption, and value tracking.
What's in it for you

Our goal is to celebrate our people, their lives, and everything in-between. We aim to create a culture that empowers everyone to bring the best versions of themselves to work each and every day. We believe the most inclusive and diverse culture makes for a better business and a brighter world.

Next steps

If we feel like a place where you can belong, we'd love to learn more about you as a person and your experience to date. Once you've submitted an application the next steps of the process, if successful, are likely to include a three stage interview process.

When you apply, you'll be asked about any adjustments you might need to support the recruitment process. Let us know, and we'll be sure to discuss it with you.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert, therefore we may bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as possible. If you’re offered a job with us, it will be conditional, based on the passing of background checks. All roles require a criminal record check and some roles need a financial probity check. Your recruiter can provide you with more information if needed.
